49ers Sign WR Turner, Place DL Anae On IR
The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed WR Malik Turner to a one-year deal and placed DL Bradlee Anae on the IR.

The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed WR Malik Turner to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed DL Bradlee Anae on the Injured Reserve List.
Turner (6-2, 202) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on July 29, 2018. Throughout his five-year career with the Seahawks (2018-19), Dallas Cowboys (2020-21) and San Francisco 49ers (2022) he has appeared in 44 games (three starts) and registered 29 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns.

He then spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders (2022), Houston Texans (2022-23), and San Francisco 49ers (2024) practice squads and spent the 2023 training camp with the Indianapolis Colts. Following his NFL stint, Turner signed with the United Football League’s Michigan Panthers on January 8, 2025, where he appeared in 10 games and registered 40 receptions for 365 yards and four touchdowns. He also appeared in two postseason contests and totaled 16 receptions for 267 yards and four touchdowns.
A 29-year-old native of Springfield, IL, Turner attended the University of Illinois, where he appeared in 46 games (35 starts) and registered 143 receptions for 1,804 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Anae (6-4, 260) originally signed with the team on August 4, 2025.

Brock Purdy is entering his fourth NFL season, his third consecutive as the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. Coming in as Mr. Irrelevant (the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft), it took time for him to build the trust of his teammates and coaches.
While San Francisco didn’t have much of an option when Purdy first got an opportunity due to injuries, they could’ve looked to replace him in the three years since, but haven’t.
He’s clearly the guy San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan are willing to bet on.
Purdy talked about his growing trust with Shanahan when joining The Richard Sherman Podcast earlier this week.
“For him to pour into me and teach me these things, it’s been awesome,” Purdy said of his head coach.
With a complicated offense and tendency to go against the grain, Purdy has learned plenty from the experienced Shanahan.
And having trust in their passer has allowed San Francisco to open up their playbook, something Purday noted he doesn’t see on every team.
“Sometimes I feel like you can see coordinators keeping things really simple for quarterbacks,’ he said. “But, with [Shanahan], it’s been let’s see if you can handle it, and I feel like I’ve shown that.”
The Iowa State product said he feels like his coach isn’t “handcuffing me at all” regarding throws he’s trusted to read and execute.
