Unsuspecting players showed out, but the Sacramento Kings secured their third win in the last three games by defeating the Dallas Mavericks 130-121 on the road Thursday afternoon.
Precious Achiuwa was stellar as he recorded a career-high 29 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and three steals on 13/19 shooting, including 3/3 from three.
But it was two-way player Daeqwon Plowden who played hero in the fourth quarter, where he had 11 of his 19 points. He ended the night with 7/7 shooting. Rookie big man Maxime Raynaud also managed 22 points and six assists on 8/13 shooting.
It was Naji Marshall who led the Mavericks with a game-high 36 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists on 14/23 shooting.
Sacramento had a season-low four turnovers on the night, which was a key factor, as was winning the points in the paint battle 76-62.
Sacramento Kings @ Dallas Mavericks Game Notes
It was a scorching hot offensive performance from both teams early. Not long into the game, Sacramento scored on a handful of consecutive offensive possessions as they held a 17-12 lead just five minutes into the game.
Achiuwa had already scored seven points, then Maxime Raynaud recorded six straight for the Kings. One more 7-0 run later, and the Kings had jumped out to a notable 28-15 advantage.
But it was Marshall who led the response for Dallas, getting downhill and playing through contact as he started his night 5-for-5. The Mavericks put together a 9-0 run, bringing it back to 30-26 in favor of the Kings.
Offensive rebounds went a long way in the final moments of the first, as Sacramento ended the quarter on a 12-2 run of their own to lead 42-28. They shot 56.7 percent from the field in the quarter.
Achiuwa had 14 points, while Marshall tallied 13 up to that point. Those two continued to shine in the second quarter, going about their business in a similar fashion — attacking the basket.
Getting more run with so many injuries, Drew Eubanks scored six points in a hurry, mostly off of Richaun Holmes-esque push shots. He had six straight points as the lead extended to 53-37.

Once again, Marshall was the one to keep it close as he reached 20 points with roughly five minutes to play in the half as the Kings’ offense finally slowed down.
By the midway point, Achiuwa had 21 points — the most in any half of his career — as his team was up 68-56.

The effects of playing on the second-night of a back-to-back were apparent at the start of the third. Dallas was fighting to get back into it, playing notably faster than the Kings for a stretch.
Sacramento’s guards were having quiet nights. Rookie Nique Clifford was struggling from the field. Devin Carter showed off his bounce a few times, but struggled with turnovers. Malik Monk’s shots weren’t falling, and DeMar DeRozan simply didn’t attempt many shots.
An 11-0 Mavericks run cut their deficit to three (72-69). Getting over their slump and refinding their energy, Carter threw down a nasty putback dunk after Achiuwa missed a downhill attempt to cap off a 10-0 run.
It was the definition of a game of runs as Dallas put together a 7-0 stretch of their own, with Marvin Bagley going down with an injury during that — something Kings’ fans are unfortunately familiar with. He headed to the locker room but would later return to the action.
With both teams recording 32 points in the third frame, the Toyota Center scoreboard read 100-88 as the final 12 minutes kicked off.
Daeqwon Plowden, already having a solid night up to that point, came alive down the stretch as he and Marshall seemed to be bickering back and forth amid the competition.
But for the Mavs, it was guard Brandon Williams who picked it up as he and his teammates managed a 12-0 run. Leading by three (110-105), the Plowden halted that run with a fierce putback slam. And his best dunk came a few minutes later.

Closing the game with Carter, Clifford, Plowden, Achiuwa, and Raynaud, the final stretch featured a handful of trips to the free-throw line for both sides. It was a much slower final quarter than the track meet that preceded it.
Williams got up to 12 points in the fourth off a trip to the line, making it a 123-121 game with 1:49 in favor of the Kings.
In fitting fashion, Achiuwa secured his career-high (29 points) with by converting off his own miss before they forced Khris Middleton into a turnover on the other end. The fourth-quarter heroics from Plowden continued as he hit a corner three to extend his perfect shooting.
Achiuwa blocked Marshall at the rim before Clifford iced the game with a tough drive and finish going to his right as the Kings closed the game on a 7-0 run to earn a 130-121 win in Dallas. It’s their second win in three games.
Achiuwa led his side with a career-high 29 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and three steals on 13/19 shooting, including 3/3 from three.
Plowden added 19 points, 11 coming in the final frame, on 7/7 shooting, which matched his career high. Raynaud also managed 22 points and six assists on 8/13 shooting.
It was Marshall who led the Mavericks with a game-high 36 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists on 14/23 shooting, but their 17 turnovers as a team hurt.
Especially when you consider Sacramento having a season-low four turnovers on the night and winning the points in the paint battle 76-62.
Next up, the Kings end their five-game road trip with a battle against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night.
