Madden 27: George Kittle remains among NFL’s elite TE’s despite Achilles injury

San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle may be working his way back from a torn Achilles tendon, but that didn’t stop Madden 27 from recognizing him as one of the league’s premier tight ends.

The latest Madden 27 player ratings place Kittle as the No. 2 tight end in the game with a 96 overall rating, trailing only Arizona Cardinals standout Trey McBride, who earned a 99 overall.

Las Vegas Raiders rookie sensation Brock Bowers rounds out the top three at 93 overall.

Kittle’s placement comes despite suffering a torn right Achilles tendon during the 49ers’ NFC Wild Card victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 11.

While the injury ended his postseason and raised questions about his availability entering 2026, Kittle recently revealed he is ahead of schedule in his recovery and believes he has a realistic chance to suit up sooner rather than later when the 49ers begin their season.

Before the injury, Kittle remained one of the NFL’s most complete tight ends. The seven-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro and three-time second-team All-Pro entered the 2025 campaign fresh off consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Although a hamstring injury limited him early in the year, his all-around ability as both a dominant blocker and explosive pass catcher continues to make him one of football’s most valuable offensive weapons.

EA Sports’ ratings reflect that reputation. Only McBride received a higher grade among tight ends, while Kittle finished comfortably ahead of Bowers (93), Travis Kelce (91), Mark Andrews (90), Dallas Goedert (89), Sam LaPorta (88), Hunter Henry (86), Tucker Kraft (85) and rookie Colston Loveland (84).

While some fans will inevitably debate whether Kittle deserves the top spot, his 96 overall shows EA Sports still views him as one of the NFL’s elite players despite the significant injury.

If Kittle returns to full strength and resumes the level of play that produced back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, don’t be surprised if he’s back in the conversation for the No. 1 tight end rating when the next edition of Madden 27 receives its roster updates.
