The Sacramento Kings still have a need to address in the backcourt, and Victor Oladipo could be an intriguing option to fill it.
With Russell Westbrook now retired, Sacramento has lost more than a veteran point guard. The Kings also lost a respected locker-room presence who provided mentorship to their young players. If Sacramento wants to replace some of that experience while adding another guard behind rookie Darius Acuff Jr., Oladipo could make sense.
Kings television voice Mark Jones recently worked out with Oladipo and offered an encouraging assessment of the former All-Star’s chances of returning to the NBA.
“I was in the gym with Victor just five days ago, watching him play fives down in Miami and watching one of his individual workouts too with Ryan Powell, his trainer, who he’s been with for the last year,” Jones told Sactown Sports’ Carmichael Dave. “He looks phenomenal.”

More on Victor Oladipo
Victor Oladipo, 34, has not appeared in an NBA game since the 2022-23 season after suffering significant lower-body injuries, including a ruptured right quad tendon in 2019 and a torn left patellar tendon in 2023.
He returned to competitive action last season with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League, averaging 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals over 11 games.
Jones acknowledged that Oladipo is not the same explosive athlete he was earlier in his career, but believes there is still plenty of basketball left.
“He’s not the athletic Victor Oladipo he was 8-10 years ago. Obviously, after two knee surgeries, but he still has the ability to get by people off the bounce,” Jones said.
Perhaps more importantly, Oladipo believes his G League stint proved something to himself.
“As he told me when he played in the G League this past season, it was a tipping point for him,” Jones said. “He said, ‘Mark, I was able to prove to myself that I could blow by younger guys with younger legs, and I could stay in front of younger guys while playing defense.'”
That defensive ability and veteran experience could be particularly valuable for a Kings team that appears poised to give Acuff significant responsibility immediately.
Jones also believes Oladipo could bring an important intangible to Sacramento.
“I think there’s some interest there. And the feeling is mutual.” 👀

“I think in Victor you get a guy who would be a good mentor and very grateful to be back in the league and still very skilled,” Jones said.
There is also a Sacramento connection.
Victor Oladipo and Kings general manager Scott Perry have a relationship dating back to Perry drafting Oladipo second overall in Orlando in 2013. According to Jones, the two remain close.
Oladipo acknowledged that connection when speaking with Yahoo Sports on Wednesday, saying, “I think there’s some interest there. And the feeling is mutual.”
With an open roster spot and a clear need for another guard behind Acuff, the Kings could have an intriguing opportunity in Victor Oladipo. His health remains the biggest question, but if he can prove he is ready for another NBA opportunity, Sacramento may be one of the more logical destinations.
