After two years with the Kings, future Hall of Famer DeMar DeRozan has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Denver Nuggets.

After spending the last two years with the Sacramento Kings, veteran guard DeMar DeRozan was searching for a new NBA home as he headed into his 18th season. According to Chris Haynes, senior NBA insider for NBA on Prime, “DeMar DeRozan intends to sign with the Denver Nuggets.” ESPN’s Shams Charania later reported that the deal had been agreed to.
Throughout the offseason, DeRozan had been most strongly linked to the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, and the Nuggets. Denver has made the postseason for eight consecutive seasons, including winning a championship in 2022-23. Their recent success has largely been on the shoulders of three-time MVP and one of the greatest players of this generation in Nikola Jokic.
Haynes reported that DeRozan was in contact with Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon and that he “is anxious to play for a contending team.”

With Peyton Watson recently sign-and-traded to Cleveland, Denver is lacking in the depth department. DeRozan, who recently turned 37, can still put up impressive box score lines. In 77 games played with the Kings in 2025-26, he averaged 18.4 points, 4.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 49.7 percent from the field. That ended his streak of 12 consecutive seasons with 20+ points per game.
Sitting at 18th on the all-time scoring list with 26,711 career points and counting, DeRozan is a certified bucket getter. Seeing how he fits into Denver’s Jokic-centric offense may be interesting, and he doesn’t provide much defensively, but the Nuggets have lacked a scoring punch since moving on from Michael Porter Jr.
It’s DeRozan’s fourth NBA team in 18 seasons. He spent the first nine seasons of his career in Toronto after the Raptors selected him with the 9th overall pick in the 2009 Draft. Traded to the Spurs for Kawhi Leonard, he then spent three seasons as a point guard under Gregg Popovich before joining the Bulls for three seasons. The two most recent seasons with Sacramento didn’t lead to any postseason chances, but ‘Deebo’ may get his chances with the Nuggets.
With Russell Westbrook deciding to retire and DeRozan now reportedly agreeing to a deal with Denver, that’s two primary starters from last season’s Kings who will no longer be around. It should clear the room for some young talent to see extended opportunities, namely incoming lottery pick Darius Acuff.
Sacramento general manager Scott Perry elected to waive DeRozan to save money with his partially guaranteed deal, and the future Hall of Famer landed on a perennial playoff contender.
