The San Francisco 49ers are 4-0 heading into Sunday’s NFC West showdown with the Seattle Seahawks, and Brock Purdy knows his team will face a completely different challenge at Lumen Field.

Purdy spoke with the media ahead of the rivalry matchup, discussing Seattle’s defense, his success against the blitz, the 49ers’ disappointing finish against the Seahawks last season, and his increased impact as a runner.

Through four games, Purdy has completed 69.9% of his passes for 1,007 yards, 11 touchdowns and just one interception. He also has 122 rushing yards on 20 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt. Most impressively, Purdy has yet to be sacked this season.

His ability to handle pressure will be critical against Seattle, particularly with the Seahawks’ disciplined defensive scheme.

“I think obviously Kyle [Shanahan] does a good job with giving us answers and stuff when we do have pressure looks,” Purdy said. “When we do get pressure, knowing where the ball needs to go and whether we’re picked up in protection or not.”

Brock Purdy has completed 73% of his passes against the blitz, and he believes the key is recognizing what the defense is presenting and making it pay when opportunities arise.

Seattle presents a particularly difficult challenge because it rarely gives up explosive plays. Purdy described the Seahawks as a defense that makes offenses earn everything.

“They play with a lot of energy and stuff,” Purdy said. “I think they’ve played with each other now for a good amount of time so they understand what each guy does really well. They play 11 as one for sure.”

The 49ers also have some unfinished business in Seattle. San Francisco failed to score a touchdown in either matchup against the Seahawks last season, something Purdy admitted still bothers him.

“Obviously for me it sucked how last year ended and not getting in the end zone and scoring and stuff like that,” Purdy said.

Still, Purdy isn’t allowing last season’s results to consume his approach to Sunday.

“Every game is new. Every moment is different,” he said. “I’m just excited for, obviously, Week Five against these guys back up in Seattle and ready for the challenge.”

Purdy also acknowledged the unique satisfaction of winning on the road, especially in an environment as hostile as Seattle.

“I think there’s something in us as humans that it does make it satisfying when you push through and you follow through and you can jog off the field a winner,” Purdy said.
