49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is expected to miss “at least a couple of weeks” after suffering a hamstring injury Sunday in Seattle, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday.
The 49ers beat their NFC West rival to move to 5-0, but the win raised significant concerns for an offense already short on healthy wide receivers.
Samuel had been a productive part of San Francisco’s attack through five games. He has caught 16 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 78 rushing yards on nine attempts in 2026.
His 12.9 yards per reception and 80-yard long catch underline the explosive-play threat the 49ers will have to replace while he recovers.

More on 49ers WR Deebo Samuel
Deebo Samuel will likely miss upcoming games, including Sunday’s home matchup against the Washington Commanders and next week’s matchup in Atlanta. San Francisco has their BYE week the following week (Week 8).
The depth chart is under pressure. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season with a PCL injury, and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling is expected to miss at least 10 weeks because of an ankle injury.
Christian Kirk (calf) and Demarcus Robinson (ankle) remain on injured reserve. With those four unavailable and Samuel sidelined, San Francisco has little margin for another setback at receiver.
Samuel has been central to that versatility over his career. His career totals list 422 catches for 5,725 yards and 30 receiving touchdowns, plus 1,296 rushing yards and 21 scores on the ground.
Those numbers reflect a player who can threaten defenses at multiple levels and give the offense useful flexibility.
For now, the 49ers can celebrate a 5-0 start and a road win against Seattle while managing a mounting injury list. Keeping that momentum will mean getting creative with a depleted receiver group and avoiding rushed decisions about Deebo Samuel’s return.
His health will be a key storyline as San Francisco navigates the next few weeks.
