Bonta Hill: Brock Purdy is good enough to win a Super Bowl
Bonta Hill explains why he trusts Brock Purdy in big games and how Raheem Morris’ creative defense could help the 49ers contend.

Brock Purdy doesn’t need to win the debate over where he ranks among the NFL’s quarterbacks to prove he can lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl, says NBC Sports’ Bonta Hill.
The more important question is whether San Francisco can win a big game with him—and Hill believes it can.
“I don’t care if he’s a top-five quarterback. I don’t care if he’s top 15,” Hill said on Sactown Sports’ The Drive Guys. “Can I win a big game with Brock Purdy as a quarterback? And I think the answer is yes.”
Hill pointed to Purdy’s growth this season, especially his decision-making and ball security. After a turnover-heavy year, Purdy has been more decisive and has cut down on interceptions, Hill said. He also sees more zip on Purdy’s downfield throws.
“He is just better,” Hill said. “He’s throwing with a little more velocity when he’s throwing down the field, and he’s not turning the ball over.”

More on 49ers QB Brock Purdy
Brock Purdy’s performance has stood out even as injuries limited the 49ers’ receiving options in training camp. Hill said Purdy continued to produce efficiently while players such as Mike Evans and DeMarcus Robinson missed practice time.
To Hill, that speaks to Purdy’s command of the offense and his ability to adjust to the players available.
“He’s perfected this offense,” Hill said. “He’s fighting his wide receivers.”
Hill also sees San Francisco’s defense as a reason the team can contend. He described Raheem Morris’ approach as more creative than Robert Saleh’s, with a greater willingness to use different fronts and let defensive backs trust their instincts. Hill said players have responded to the freedom to play aggressively.
“Let players play and call the defense,” Hill said. “And if they get beat, they get beat. But go out on your shield.”
That flexibility has helped the 49ers navigate injuries, while Purdy and the offense have continued to put points on the board. For Hill, the combination matters more than any quarterback ranking: Purdy has shown he can deliver in important moments, and Morris is giving the defense different ways to create pressure and disrupt opponents.
The 49ers still have to prove they can sustain that level through the postseason.
But Hill’s measure is straightforward. He trusts Purdy in a big game, and he believes the quarterback has grown into an even better fit for Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
