29.  Sacramento Kings

“Not quite a “team,” but filled with some interesting pieces. The questions that matter this season: Can De’Aaron Fox build on a disappointing rookie year? Can Marvin Bagley III prove he can play defense? Can Harry Giles live up to a fraction of his pre-injury potential?”

ESPN – Mark Spears

30. Sacramento Kings
BPI projected wins: 26.7
Previous rank: No. 29

Best case: 34-48
“The best-case scenario for the Kings is a 30-win season. Sacramento will be one of the fun new teams to watch because of its exciting young talent, but with Marvin Bagley IIIDe’Aaron Fox and the other youngsters, it will be another season of rebuilding for the Kings in an even more talented West. The goal is for growth and competitiveness.

Worst case: 19-63
Here, the Kings have another long season of struggle and don’t win even 20 games, as the tough Western Conference will not do the Kings any favors. Every win in the West will be important for playoff-contending teams, so the Kings won’t be taken lightly. What can make matters even worse for the Kings is if health becomes an issue, as well.

30) Kings:

“As imagined, the preseason was hideous. Rebuilding is a sad thing when it’s obvious before the season begins.”

Sacramento Kings

2017-18 record: 27-55
Pace: 95.6 (30) OffRtg: 103.0 (29) DefRtg: 110.3 (27) NetRtg: -7.2 (29)

Marvin Bagley III had some good moments (he’s got great hands, good footwork and a soft touch around the hoop), Harry Giles had the best assist of the preseason, and Buddy Hield playing small forward could open things up offensively. But the first quarter of preseason games is generally when you see the most minutes from the regular-season rotation, and the Kings lost their last three first quarters against NBA teams by a total score of 110-48. With ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy probably still yelling at Hield for going under screens when guarding Klay Thompson, the Kings begin the season against the team (Utah) that they trailed 45-10 after 14 minutes on Thursday.
