The Los Angeles Rams finished the season with a 13-3 record and defeated the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints to earn a Super Bowl birth. Los Angeles hasn’t been perfect however and some of those faults have cost them some games.

Here are the three reasons the Rams will lose Super Bowl LIII:

Defensive troubles

In the three reasons the Rams will win article from yesterday, I mentioned the star power Los Angeles has on defense could lead to a Super Bowl title. However, that star power led to a very sub par season for their defense. The Rams were in the bottom half of the league in points and yards allowed and allowed more than 30 points in a game seven times this season. The Patriots finished fourth in the league averaging a little more than 27 points per game. The New England offense might not be the most talented in the league but they will be ready and have a game plan ready to take on the Rams defense.

Todd Gurley’s health

Gurley isn’t currently listed on the Rams injury report and has played in both playoff games but he hasn’t seemed to be the same since injuring his knee in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the two games since returning, Gurley has 20 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns, majority of those yards coming in the divisional round against the Cowboys. In the NFC Championship Game, Gurley only had four carries for ten yards and didn’t look to be himself. Everything seems to be fine with the knee but there’s the chance that it’s not quite 100 percent and that knee will need to ready come Sunday.

Jared Goff’s inconsistencies

Goff has be an important piece to the Rams offense as a quarterback is in any offense. The third-year quarterback has been a bit inconsistent the past several weeks starting back in Week 14 against the Bears. Chicago’s defense forced Goff to throw a career-high four interceptions in the Rams 15-6 loss. The following week against the Eagles, Goff threw for 339 yards but didn’t have a touchdown and threw another interception in a 30-23 loss. In the last two games of the season against the Cardinals and 49ers, Goff threw for five touchdowns, no interceptions, and 365. In his two postseason starts, Goff has been somewhere in between. Against the Cowboys and Saints combined, he’s thrown for 483 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, which is good for a 67.22 passer rating. Goff will need to be closer to his performances against the Cardinals and 49ers than his two playoff games in the Super Bowl.
