A few weeks after saying he’d like to stay with the Athletics for several more years, Khris Davis could be getting his wish.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported early Saturday morning that the A’s and Davis’ reps have been in contact regarding a contract extension.

Davis is entering his fourth season with the the A’s without any long-term extension. The 31-year-old has signed a series of one-year deals with Oakland that has seen his salary increase with each deal. Davis will be playing the 2019 season under a one-year deal worth $16 million.

“I’d like to be here. I hope something gets done,” Davis said to the Associated Press back in February. “It’s not a good thing being a free agent right now. For my security, it’s going to impact a lot. That’s the way the business is. I’m already 31 so I don’t know if I’m too old. There’s a lot of things that run through my head. Who knows. If it happens, it happens.”

In his three years with Oakland, Davis has hit 133 home runs, driven in 335 runs, slugged .534, while being worth a 7.9 WAR. Davis has yet to play in spring training with a calf injury but is expected to play before the A’s leave for Japan on March 14.
