Week 2 has passed and it was another wild week in the NFL. Here’s what I saw as the best and worst of the week:

Best- Ties
For the second week in a row, there was a tie in the NFL, this week being the Packers-Vikings game. Since 1974 when overtime was introduced, this is the fourth time there has been two ties in a season (1986, 1997, 2016) and the third time ties have happened in consecutive weeks (1997, 2016).

Worst- Kickers
On Sunday alone, kickers missed a total of 19 kicks, 12 field goals and nine extra points. Two kickers ultimately lost their jobs due to missing kicks, the Browns Zane Gonzalez, who missed two field goals and two extra points, and the Vikings Daniel Carlson, who missed three, including the potential game winner in overtime. Rams punter, not kicker Johnny Hekker made a field goal and an extra point, the first two field goal attempts of his career.

Best- Patrick Mahomes
The second year quarterback out of Texas Tech has been the best quarterback so far in the early part of the season. Sunday, he threw for six touchdowns against the Steeler, bring his total on the season to ten. With his sixth touchdown pass on Sunday, he broke the NFL record for most touchdown passes in the first two weeks of the season, breaking the previous record of nine held by Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Charley Johnson.

Worst- Retiring at halftime
I wanted to put this as a best because of the audacity it takes to retire at halftime but after the reaction post game from the Buffalo Bills, I decided it would be a worst. While trailing 28-6 at halftime, now former Bills cornerback Vontae Davis called it quits, leaving the game and saying he was retiring. Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander wasn’t happy post game, “Never have seen it ever,” Alexander said. “Pop-warner, high school, college, pros. Never heard of it, never seen it. It is just completely disrespectful to his teammates.” The Bills ended up losing to the Chargers, 31-20.

Best- The Bears defense

It’s not surprising to see the seventh-best defense in 2017 got better with the addition of all-world pass rusher Khalil Mack but it’s fun to watch. After a great first half against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, the put together a full game Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. The Bears defense sacked Russell Wilson six times, intercepted a pass for a touchdown, and forced two fumbles while recovering one. So far this season, the Bears defense alone has scored 12 points, both on interceptions returned for touchdowns. Week 3, the Bears face the Arizona Cardinals, whose offense has only scored six.
