Brock Purdy has taken the NFL world by storm, with famous athletes giving him his flowers since the end of last year. Even NFL players have started coming out of the woodwork, as Aaron Rodgers is the latest to do so.
The future hall-of-fame quarterback gave the 49ers gunslinger high praise during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show Tuesday. When asked if he had seen Purdy’s performance against the Arizona Cardinals, Rodgers honestly admitted that he didn’t, but that he expect great things from the second-year player.
“I didn’t see the game [vs. the Cardinals], but I saw the stats, and I’m a fan, for sure,” Rodgers said about Purdy Tuesday. “I think he’s done some great things.”
Despite being undefeated as a starter in the regular season (nine-game streak), some fans and media still don’t think highly of Purdy. Instead, they point to the elite talent around him on the 49ers as a crutch for the QB’s success.
Rodgers is aware of that noise and tried to silence the haters Tuesday, saying in due time that Purdy will get his flowers from the rest of the NFL landscape.
“I think people always have to have some sort of caveat, like Kyle [Shanahan] is such a great play caller and he’s got CMC [Christian McCaffrey] and Deebo [Samuel] and [George] Kittle and all these guys. At some point, I think some of that’s going to die down. They’re going to realize that Brock’s a pretty damn good player,” Rodgers explained.
Aaron Rodgers on Brock Purdy:
“I watched the game a couple weeks ago, and I thought he made 3 or 4 high-level throws. Back-shoulder, tight-windows, a couple look-offs. I got nothing but praise for Brock.”

Regardless, Rodgers is proud of Purdy and his early success, impressed by his progressions and ability to make high-level throws when it matters most.
“It’s hard to play in this league,” Rodgers added. “Brock has done some great things, and at some point, people are going to be like, ‘Okay, well, maybe it’s not just that Kyle’s a great play caller, and he’s got these weapons.’ But you still got a guy who’s got to pull the trigger every single time and make decisions.
“And I watched the game a couple of weeks ago, and I thought he made like three or four really high-level throws. Back-shoulder throws, and tight-window throws, and a couple of look-offs. So, I got nothing but praise for Brock and respect for the way he’s played.”
Brock Purdy had his most efficient showing of his career in Week 4, going 20 of 21 passing against the Cardinals. He finished the game with 283 yards passing and two total touchdowns as the 49ers routed the visitors, 35-16.
