A couple of first-timers are representing the Bay Area in the MLB All-Star Game later this month.

A’s outfielder and DH Brent Rooker will represent Oakland as a member of the American League team. This is the first time the A’s will have a DH as their representative in an All-Star game.

An AL Player of the Week earlier this season, Rooker leads Oakland with 14 home runs and is top two in hits (58) and batting average (.243). During the month of April, the 28-year-old recorded nine home runs on a .358 batting average.

Rooker told NBC Sports California he’s overwhelmed with the opportunity ahead of him.

“To be completely transparent, I never allowed myself to think I can make an All-Star team, so this is even shocking for me. It’s more than I expected, even of myself, which is kind of a cool feeling to kind of go out and achieve something that I didn’t even really consider to be possible,” Rooker said.

The National League looked across the Bay for its closer, choosing Camilo Doval to its roster. Despite the team’s recent surge, he was the lone Giant selected to the MLB All-Star game.

Through 14 games in May, Doval recorded a 1.32 ERA and converted each of his 11 save opportunities. The 25-year-old right-hander currently is tied with Cleveland Guardians pitcher EmmanuelClase for the most saves (24) in MLB. Through three months of play, Doval sits with a 1.89 ERA.

The MLB All-Star game takes place on Saturday, July 11 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
