Since the turn of the new millennium the Super Bowl has been host to some of the most exciting moments in the history of the NFL with 10 of the past 16 Super Bowl’s ending in a one score game, unprecedented in the Super Bowl era. With the big game coming up we’ve decided to compile our favorite moments of the 21st century Super Bowl.
Kevin Dyson gets tackled at the 1 (Jan. 30, 2000): With the Tennessee Titans 10 yards away from a potential game-tying touchdown with 5 seconds to play in Super Bowl XXXIV, WR Kevin Dyson gets tackled by his shoe string by Rams LB Mike Jones.
James Harrison’s INT return (Feb. 1, 2009): Down 7-10 right on the cusp of halftime and in the red zone, Kurt Warner tries to laser in a ball on slant route to Anquan Boldin. However the Steelers star linebacker James Harrison steps in front of the play and takes it 100 yards back to the house.
Roethlisberger-to-Holmes (Feb. 1, 2009): Santonio Holmes ability to snatch the Roethisberger while keeping his toes down as he fell out of bounds with 35 seconds on the clock gave the Pittsburgh Steelers a record sixth Lombardi Trophy as they rallied for a 27-23 victory in Super Bowl XLIII.
David Tyree’s helmet catch (Feb 3, 2008): Tyree famously managed to pin the pass against his helmet with 59 seconds to go. Four plays later, Manning hit Plaxico Burress for the game-winning TD as the Giants shocked the previously undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
Malcolm Butler’s INT (Feb. 1 2015): With 20 seconds left in a 28-24 win in Super Bowl XLIX, Patriots undrafted rookie CB Malcom Butler comes up with an interception that would instantly go down in history.
Devin Hester’s kickoff (Feb. 4, 2007): Chicago Bears legendary return Devin Hester, who had six TD returns in the 2006 regular season, took Vinatieri’s game-opening kickoff 92 yards to the house. However it didn’t lead to team success as the Bears fell 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.

Tracy Porter pick 6 (Feb. 7 2010) : With Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts 31 yards away from a game-tying touchdown with less than four minutes to go in Super Bowl XLIV, the New Orleans Saints CB Tracy Porter swiped a pass intended for WR Reggie Wayne at his own 26 and took off for a game-sealing 74-yard TD.
Adam Vinatieri’s Super Bowl XXXVI field goal (Feb. 3 2002): The beginning of the end. The kick that launched the dynasty. Clutch. Call it what you want. Adam Vinatieri drilled this game-winning 48 yard to set in motion what we would come to know as the premier franchise in sports.
