Brock Purdy continues to defy the odds, going from the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to leading the San Francisco 49ers to a 5-0 start.
After Jimmy Garoppolo suffered an injury in week 13 of last season, Purdy stepped in and has yet to lose a single regular season game. Five victories in 2022 and five more in 2023 have the Iowa State alum sitting with a historic 10-0 regular season record to start his career.
The only quarterback in NFL history to have won more consecutive regular-season games to start their career was Ben Rothlisberger from 2004-05. When drafted by the Steelers, Rothlisberger was expected to sit behind Tommy Maddox before the veteran was hurt in week two against the Baltimore Ravens. Pittsburg lost that contest.
But, Big Ben officially logged his first start the following week and won 13 straight games before resting in their final regular season showdown. The 15-1 Steelers fell to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
Like Purdy, Rothlisberger’s win streak extended over two seasons. His first loss came in Week 3 of the 2005 season, leaving his regular season win-streak record at 15. The Steelers won the 2005 Super Bowl after logging an 11-5 regular season record.

Former 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo also managed to come out on top in his first seven starts between the New England Patriots and San Francisco. He lost his eighth game but currently sits tied at third on the longest quarterback regular season win streak.
Purdy is the only player outside of Rothlisberger to reach 10 consecutive wins in the 21st century. Currently, Brock Purdy is tied with Mike Tomczak (1986-87) and Mike Livingston (1969-72) for the second most consecutive regular season wins to start a career. He could separate himself from this group with a win on Sunday. HeĀ could also reasonably pursue the record of 15. San Francisco’s next five games are against the Cleveland Browns (2-2), Minnesota Vikings (1-4), Cincinnati Bengals (2-3), Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1).
After their recent dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys, the 49ers, led by Purdy, are the current Super Bowl favorites. Mr. Irrelevent knows how to win games. He’s probably more concerned with winning postseason games, but his flawless regular season streak is climbing the record books with each passing game.
