Smart Like A Fox: De’Aaron Is Here To Stay

De’Aaron Fox joined me on the show this morning, and we discussed a number of things.
It was a wide ranging interview covering a lot of things, from basketball to video games, to places in Sacramento to eat at late at night.
What stuck out to a lot of Kings fans listening, was Fox’s commitment to the city and the team, which also committed to him with a max contract extension.
“Most of you know I don’t do much, so I’m good with the small town environment,” he said.
“Just bringing something back to the city that (hasn’t had) winning basketball in a long time, that’s what’s important to me.”
“That’s more important than the contract and everything else.”
He’s obviously not just looking to the NOW, but also nodding to the future of the team as well:
“If I can win with this franchise, no matter who’s here, that’s a success to me. That’s what I’m looking for, that’s the #1 priority on my mind,” he continued.
“Just to be able to win, get to the playoffs, and contend for championships here”.
I pointed out that unlike a lot of his contemporaries, Fox doesn’t really crave the limelight off the floor. Content to play games and hang out with his family and friends often is his preference- many times passing up lucrative endorsement and appearance contracts not just locally, but nationwide.
“I’ve declined a lot of things,” he said.
“For me, basketball isn’t about that. Some people play basketball for the ‘clout’, it happens a lot. But for me, I’ve always stayed out of the way.”
A soon to be 23 year old on court general, with Max money, who wants to be here and is simply interested in winning basketball and hanging at home?
Sounds like a good foundational piece.
