Once again we have another Sacramento Kings season with as much or more interest off the court as on the court.
With trade rumors flying, I thought we’d look at a few.
Harrison Barnes to Boston for Aaron Nesmith and a 1st
Uh, yeah. The Kings shed 20 million, and they get back essentially 2 first round picks. Boston can absorb Barnes into the trade exception created by Gordon Hayward, and they get a great complement to their rotation.
Listen, losing Barnes as both a player and a person is tough, no doubt. But to get that kind of haul fits perfectly on the Kings’ timeline: get young talent/shed salary/get draft capital.
Buddy Hield to Philly for Tyrese Maxey, Danny Green, Mike Scott, and a future 1st
YES PLEASE.
It’s no secret Daryl Morey covets the shooting of Buddy Hield, who would complement the not-shooting of Ben Simmons perfectly.
Yes it’s a lot, but this is the type of move that could propel Philly even further down the road to a title, and let’s be honest: they know they can’t compete with the Nets as is. Both Morey and Doc Rivers would love to at least make the Finals their first year with the Sixers, and Hield could help.
On the other hand, Sacramento gets out from Buddy’s money, would likely buyout both Green and Scott, get another young Kentucky guard, and some draft capital. Plus this moves Haliburton into a starting role, and makes the Kings one of the few (if only) teams with two Tyreses playing at the same time (my own stat).
One of the few Bill Simmons ideas that makes sense, at least from a Sacramento perspective. Plus Monte McNair and Daryl Morey have a tiny bit of history.
Richaun Holmes for ?
As we’ve said before, McNair has to know by now of Holmes is in the mix both fit and financially for next year and beyond.
If he is? Delete tweet.
If not? Gotta get something for him. Packaging him with Corey Joseph’s 12 million left for this season might bring in another pick for a team looking for a solid big.
Add Nemenja Bjelica in to one of those deals as a piece, or perhaps on his own for really anything, and you’re cooking with fire now.
Just a couple more weeks to go. Things should get quite interesting.
