The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have faced off against one another 35 times. That’s including postseason matchups, too.
And who leads this series? Nobody yet. The all-time series is currently tied at 17-17-1 heading into Sunday’s Week 5 game. The 49ers lead the regular-season series, while the Cowboys lead the postseason matchups. But the 49ers have ended the last two postseason runs of the Dallas Cowboys.
But Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones knows this weekend’s game is a measuring stick for where Dallas stands against the 4-0 Niners. On Tuesday, Jones joined “Shan & RJ” on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas and said San Francisco is the team right now “most likely to go win the Super Bowl.”
“But in order for them to get there they have to go by us, hopefully two times if that’s the way it falls in the playoffs and we’re in the playoffs, of course,” Jones said. “But the bottom line is you’re playing the best, you don’t need the game to tell you you’re playing the best, but you need the game to show you how you stack up against the best.”
Jones went on to say he believes their defense is different than it was in the last two matchups. The 49ers are one of two remaining unbeaten teams, the other is in the same division as the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles.
“There’s no reason physically, there’s no reason scheme-wise that we shouldn’t go out there to play well enough to win the football game,” Jones concluded.
