Davante Adams coming off of a career year with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In his first year with the Silver and Black, he became the new Raiders single-season receiving yards record-holder, recording 1,443 receiving yards. Tim Brown’s record of 1,408 receiving yards has stood in the Raiders organization since 1997.
Adams surpassed 100 yards receiving nine times with a season-high of 177 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14. He even concluded the year with his third straight NFL All-Pro Team honors.
But, his personal accolades didn’t translate to on-the-field success. After starting the year 0-3, the Raiders would finish the 2022 season with a 6-11 record. On top of the team’s disappointing season, longtime Raiders’ starter and Adams’ friend Derek Carr was benched towards the end of the season and eventually released.
But, what happened last year is in the past. And Davante Adams still has lofty goals in a deep AFC West.
“My goal is to win a Super Bowl with this team. And that’s why I didn’t come here to just be cute with Derek,” Adams said in a recent interview with The Ringer’s Mirin Fader. “It is to really try and have a shot and change this organization.”
He goes on to say in the interview he’s going to “have to buy into this and try to be as optimistic as possible” with the direction the team is heading into 2023. Along with releasing Carr, the Raiders also traded tight end, Darren Waller. Moves, he alluded to not in his interview not seeing eye-to-eye on.
But, he says he’s committed to helping the team win now, throwing his support behind new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
“He’s a really cool dude, talking to him. I really haven’t been around him enough to truly know what type of leader he is. I’ve only heard good things from his teammates, though, so that’s a good thing, because it’s guys that I know wouldn’t mess around with stuff like that.”
