Another day, another list of players absent from 49ers practice because of injury. The biggest name: wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Samuel was not present for his second consecutive San Francisco 49ers practice Thursday, dealing with a hamstring injury sustained in last week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The versatile offensive weapon was able to finish Week 7’s contest before citing the injury the next day upon returning to the team’s facilities.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan declined to go in-depth on his status for Week 8 Wednesday, instead stating that he is working his way back to the field.

“He’s making progress,” Shanahan said Wednesday.

Joining Samuel on the DNP list was defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot, ankle) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (calf). Fullback Kyle Juszczyk was also not at practice Thursday but is expected to miss this week’s game after having surgery to repair a broken finger earlier in the week.

Armstead is the player Shanahan is most anxious to get back out there, hoping he can make a return to the field against the Los Angeles Rams.

“Yeah, we’re missing him a lot. Arik’s our best player in there and it’s been tough without him,” Shanahan said earlier in the week. “I hope to have him back this week, still continuing his rehab and we’ll see how it goes.”

Another player on the cusp of his return is cornerback Jason Verrett, activated from the PUP list Wednesday. Practicing in limited fashion the first two days of the week, Verrett’s return will be a gradual one, with the team hoping he can come into form by the end of the regular season.

“I’m not ruling out this week. I’m really just waiting to see how he practices and then go from there,” Shanahan said.

Running back Christian McCaffrey was also out there Thursday, getting passing reps with Jimmy Garoppolo and the quarterbacks during the media portion. Only appearing in select snaps last week, the full playbook will be unleashed for CMC being forward.

Getting McCaffrey more involved in the offense would be a huge help for the 49ers, especially if Samuel can’t go Sunday in LA.
