According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers and All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel have agreed to a contract extension Sunday that keeps him in the Bay for several years to come.
The reported deal is three years, $71.5 million which goes up to $73.5 million. $58.1 million of that money is guaranteed, potentially the largest amount guaranteed for a WR in history. He’ll be 29 years old when entering the last year of his new deal.
The #49ers and star weapon Deebo Samuel worked for months and get it done. He lands a huge deal — 3 year extension worth $73.5M max and $71.55M total. The guarantee is $58.1M. He’ll be 29 years old entering the last year of his deal with the potential for another massive one.

“We are overjoyed to have come together with Deebo to keep him with the 49ers for years to come,” General Manager John Lynch said, via the team’s official statement. “Deebo has the rare ability to not only play at a unique level but to inspire his teammates with the way he plays. He is a special player that embodies ‘will meeting skill.’ We’re proud to move forward with him as an integral leader and foundational piece of our team.”
Samuel and the Bay Area franchise have been at a stalemate since feeling undervalued during contract negotiations earlier in the year, leading to his official trade request in April.
Lynch and 49ers brass have stood pat in trade talks, hoping to make it work as training camp approached.
“This was not easy. From a trade request to totally rebuilding the relationship. But agent Tory Dandy and 49ers brass deal with it all. In the end, no trade. Samuel gets paid. And everything works out,” Rapoport added.
Signs had been pointing in the right direction leading up to camp. Samuel informed the masses via social media that he was back in the Bay Area prior to camp, posting a workout video with his trainer, indicating that the saga would be coming to an end shortly.
The all-around offensive weapon has reportedly been in team meetings during the first week of camp, choosing to work on off-the-field conditioning while negotiations lingered.

Today’s news comes after Seahawks star wideout D.K. Metcalf agreed to a contract extension worth 3-years, $72 million Thursday.
A deal also comes a day before pads officially come on for 49ers’ training camp, signaling both sides’ eagerness to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
Making first-team All-Pro for the first time in 2021, Samuel was a wrecking ball for the 49ers, spearheading their offense to the NFC Championship game. Racking up 1,405 yards and 6 TDs as a wideout, and 365 yards and 8 TDs as a running back, Deebo showed that he is a complete offensive player in 2021.
Samuel, 26, is entering the prime of his career and is an invaluable member of the Red & Gold, hoping to spearhead the franchise to championship number six, this season.
