San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been absent from team OTA’s this week and now we know why.
On Thursday’s edition of KNBR’s Papa & Lund show, the 26-year-old Greenlaw told the hosts he had a “little clean up in the thumb.” And while he may not be participating in team drills, he’s still with the team, continuing his individual offseason drills and training.
“Yeah, nothing major,” Greenlaw said told the hosts. “It was giving me some problems, just whenever I was punching at the ball or whenever like when I had to use my hands on O-linemen. My finger was just really jammed up, so I just had to get it cleaned up and fixed. It’s going really well right now, so I’m just waiting, I guess. Now, I think they’re going to keep me out of OTAs for the most part, just because you don’t want any setbacks right now. But it’s going really well.”
And Dre Greenlaw, a fifth-round draft pick in 2019, knows a thing or two about punching the ball out. Last season, he caused forced two fumbles, recovering two as well.
Dre Greenlaw on @KNBR said he had a thumb "cleanup" this offseason and will stay out most of the OTAs:
