The 49ers have a relatively clean bill of health entering Week 6, after welcoming back Elijah Mitchell into the fold.

The San Francisco 49ers running back made a fully-padded appearance Thursday, the first time in weeks. The Louisiana alum was seen taking snaps and sprinting effortlessly during the media portion of practice, indicating that his lower body ailment had cleared up.

Official word from the 49ers listed Mitchell as limited Thursday.

Elijah Mitchell, 25, has been in and out of the lineup the last two seasons, suffering from numerous knee injuries. He was only featured in five regular season contests in 2022, due to two sprained MCLs. This season hasn’t been much different, only playing in two of the five games so far.

Additionally, left guard Aaron Banks was seen at practice for a second consecutive day. Banks suffered a mild shoulder strain in Week 5 against the Cowboys, painful enough for him to miss the entire second half. Luckily, the ailment was closer to the shoulder, initially feared to have suffered a season-ending torn bicep.

Not all injury news is good however as linebacker Dre Greenlaw was missing from action for a second-straight day. The Arkansas alum has been dealing with a lingering ankle injury for the past few weeks, playing through the discomfort. His absence Thursday is for a different ailment though, picking up a hamstring injury this week.

His availability for Week 6 may be heavily dependent on his ability to be out there Friday.

“Dre (Greenlaw) couldn’t go today, so hopefully he’ll feel better tomorrow,” coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR Thursday afternoon.

Left tackle Trent Williams and tight end George Kittle returned to practice Thursday after a veteran rest day.
