Esteury Ruiz made an immediate impact in his return to Oakland.
The 25-year-old outfielder was on the A’s opening day roster but was optioned to Triple-A in the middle of the team’s second series against the Boston Red Sox.
At the time, manager Mark Kotsay explained the move was done to help Ruiz’s hitting. And it appears the time in Las Vegas helped. Oakland recalled Ruiz ahead of Monday’s 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Pinch-hitting for Lawrence Butler, Esteury Ruiz gave the A’s their lone run when he blasted a home run to left field.

After the game, Kotsay said it was a great at-bat for the young outfielder.
“The swing is definitely looking better, more direct and the result was exactly what, you know, when you take good swing on a ball in the middle that he’s capable of doing. So that’s a good sign,” Kotsay told media.
With the help of a translator, Ruiz told reporters he worked on mechanics while in Triple-A.
