Although the San Francisco Giants didn’t make any aggressive trade deadline moves on Tuesday, help could be on the way in a different form.
Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi told reporters on Tuesday that top prospect Kyle Harrison is getting close to making his MLB debut, which could take place in the coming weeks.
Harrison, a 21-year-old, hard-throwing left-hander, had spent the 2023 season with AAA Sacramento before being placed on the injured list with a hamstring injury on July 6th.
Now that Harrison, who struck out four of the six batters that he faced during a two-inning showing at the Arizona Complex League on Monday, is nearing a return, Zaidi says the plan is for the lefty to be on the fast track to the Major Leagues.
“He’s sort of on the accelerated rehab program,” Zaidi said of Harrison on Tuesday. “He was really right on the cusp when he had the hamstring injury, so it’s not going to take much for us to feel like he has checked the last box and is ready to come up here.”

“We want him to be prepared for anything as we ask from all of our pitchers, but yeah, that would be the expectation,” Zaidi added.
Harrison is expected to be a starter for San Francisco, who have struggled to find stability in the starting rotation behind Logan Webb and Alex Cobb. Outside of Webb and Cobb, no Giants starter has an ERA lower than 4.80 (not including bullpen openers that pitch one-to-two innings).
The left-hander is expected to make his next start for the Sacramento River Cats at Sutter Health Park on Sunday. You can buy tickets to see Harrison pitch by clicking here.
With the trade deadline in the rear-view and no outside help on the way, San Francisco could rely on Harrison to provide this rotation with a boost for the playoff push.
