A fracture has taken out another member of the San Francisco Giants, this time infielder Thairo Estrada.
The team announced over the holiday that the 27-year-old infielder has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Estrada was hit in the hand Sunday in the Giants’ 8-4 loss to the New York Mets.
A scan earlier this week revealed a fracture to his left hand. Giants’ manager Gabe Kapler said the team is still gathering information, but Thairo Estrada is expected to be out for four-to-six weeks.
The Giants’ second baseman has been batting .272 with 31 RBI’s and an OBP of .327 prior to the injury.
Additionally:
• IF Thairo Estrada placed on the 10-day IL with a left hand fracture.
• RHP Anthony DeSclafani placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder fatigue (retro to 7/2).— SFGiants (@SFGiants) July 4, 2023
Earlier this summer, outfielder Mitch Haniger fractured his forearm after being hit by a pitch. He’s expected to be out until mid-to-late August.
The Giants got some relief though, with outfielder Mike Yastrzemski activated from the injured list. He missed 10 games with a hamstring strain before returning to the lineup Monday against the Seattle Mariners.
