The youth movement continues for the San Francisco Giants.
According to Marc Delucchi of Sports Illustrated, the Giants promoted outfield prospect Luis Matos to AAA Sacramento on Tuesday, putting the 21-year-old one step closer to making his Major League Baseball debut.
Matos, San Francisco’s seventh-ranked prospect according to MLB.com’s 2023 rankings (was ranked third in 2022), is quickly progressing through the minor leagues after opening up this season at AA.
Per source, #SFGiants top outfielder prospect Luis Matos has been promoted and is heading to Triple-A. Matos was ranked the fourth-best prospect in the system entering the season @SFGiantsFN and has hit .304/.399/.444 at Double-A. https://t.co/xKm7vyFLH3

Over 31 appearances with AA Richmond this season, Matos posted a .304 batting average while hitting three home runs, driving in 16 runs, and stealing nine bases.
Matos has played all three outfield positions this season, but has primarily been used as a center fielder (17 games).
Another impressive aspect that Matos can bring to the table is his developed plate discipline. After striking out 65 times and walking 27 times at the High-A level in 2022, Matos has walked more this season (17) than he has been sent down on strikes (12).
Matos will join the Sacramento River Cats, who are currently on a six-game road trip in Reno to face the Aces.
You can watch Matos take the field at Sutter Health Park next week when Sacramento returns home on Tuesday, May 23rd to open up a six-game home stand against the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
