For the first time since this offseason’s free agency drama, the San Francisco Giants and shortstop Carlos Correa will meet this week when the Minnesota Twins host a three-game set that begins on Monday.

Correa agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal with the Giants back in December, but the 28-year-old shortstop’s contract never came to fruition after a failed physical caused San Francisco to get cold feet.

Following a similar failed deal with the New York Mets in the following weeks, Correa inked a six-year, $105 million contract to return to Minnesota.

Now, the Giants will face their former potential face of the franchise on Monday when Correa takes his position at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Correa has struggled thus far into the 2023 season, batting .206 with six home runs and 24 RBI over 165 at-bats, while San Francisco infielder–and Elk Grove native–J.D. Davis has arguably been the team’s best hitter to this point, batting .288 with eight home runs and 25 RBI (both lead the team).

Another player that has benefited from the decision to back off of signing Correa has been infielder Thairo Estrada, who is batting .309 (team-high) with six home runs, 17 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.

Fresh off a weekend series win over the Miami Marlins, the Giants will look to continue its winning ways in the Twin Cities against a Minnesota team that has lost three of its past four games.

San Francisco (22-24) has won five of its past six contests while pulling itself within two games of the third and final National League Wild Card spot.

Can the Giants keep things rolling against the Twins? We’re about to find out.
