Greg Papa, the radio voice of the 49ers, joined “The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross” Friday to share final thoughts on last Sunday’s loss to the Browns, injury updates to key players, Brock Purdy and his poise, and more.
The 49ers suffered their first loss of the season, but they had a chance to stay perfect. With little time remaining, Purdy and the offense positioned rookie kicker Jake Moody 41 yards out for the game-winning field goal. And with nine seconds left, Moody narrowly missed it right.
Papa explained that when he stepped outside to get on the bus Sunday morning, he knew things would be tough for the young 49ers’ quarterback and kicker.
“The wind was whippin’ off Lake Erie,” Papa said, explaining Cleveland Browns Stadium is positioned east to west instead of the more common north to south. “Those are hard field goals in those conditions… For Brock, I think he had a hard time gripping it and ripping it. He couldn’t control the ball the way Jake couldn’t control it off his right foot.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- Was there anything to attribute to the many 49ers penalties against the Browns?
- Christian McCaffrey is a true unknown for Monday night against the Vikings
- How Brock Purdy kept his composure during Sunday’s loss to the Browns
