Hondo Carpenter, Sports Illustrated beat writer covering the Las Vegas Raiders, joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross Monday to break down his recent piece on the Las Vegas Raiders decision to fire Josh McDaniels.
McDaniels and Ziegler took over the Raiders franchise together in the summer of 2022, coming over from the New England Patriots. But after a year and a half, Mark Davis made the call on Halloween to clean house, firing Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. Las Vegas named Antonio Pierce as its interim coach for the remainder of the season.
“I believe what we’re seeing now is that the Patriot Way is not real, it’s smoke and mirrors. That it’s the Tom Brady way and when you take Tom Brady away from Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels, they’re human,” Carpenter said. “And I think that Mark Davis is the last of the NFL owners that is going to be deceived by the Patriot Way.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- How Josh McDaniels briefly saved his job by beating his former team. If the Patriots had won that game though, McDaniels could have been fired earlier.
- McDaniels wasn’t hated by the Las Vegas Raider organization
- The events that led up to McDaniels and Ziegler’s firing
