The 49ers are rolling entering Week 5, now set to face their toughest test yet in the Cowboys under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football.

The San Francisco 49ers are 4-0 to start the 2023 NFL record season, their best start since 1990. Defeating the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, 35-16, the Red & Gold have been a well-oiled machine since the midway point of last season.

But if there was one team that gave the 49ers the most trouble in recent years, it’s the Dallas Cowboys.

The powerhouse franchises have had a fiery rivalry sine the days of Joe Montana and Steve Young. Now reignited more than 20 years later, Week 5’s clash should prove to be another back-and-forth battle. The 49ers-Cowboys series is currently at a standstill, tied at 19-19-1. San Francisco has gotten the upper hand in recent matchups, on a two-game playoff win streak entering Sunday.

The 49ers are also the hottest team currently, and have more confidence than ever that they will take care of  business. But that doesn’t mean the historical significance of the rivalry isn’t looming over the contest.

“Obviously, every single game is important and this week we got the Cowboys, so that’s the most important game to us. You go another step further than that, just the history with the two organizations, playoff games, all that stuff over the last couple of years. I mean, it’s no secret [that] it’s a big deal to both organizations and take pride in winning and things like that….But at the same time, it’s another Sunday for us, and we just want to take care of business,” quarterback Brock Purdy said.

What time does the regular-season game start?

Kickoff is set for 5:20 p.m. PST on Sunday, Oct. 8th, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Where can I watch the game?

The game will air live on NBC. The broadcast team includes Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth in the booth, with Melissa Stark as the sideline reporter.
