Despite a lackluster start in Las Vegas, the Raiders are not moving on from head coach Josh McDaniels this year.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe joined Cattles & Ramie this week to discuss his recent reporting on the tumultuous season for the Silver & Black, who could be behind center for the team next year, and more.

Topics discussed include:

  • Why Josh McDaniels’ job is secure despite the Raiders’ 2-7 start
  • Mark Davis wants his new hires, coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, part of the organization for a long term to implement their process
  • The Raiders overachieved last season and got a lot of good breaks heading into the playoffs
  • Nobody could have predicted the Raiders’ defense being as bad as it has been.
  • The Raiders have always looked long-term and didn’t want a one-and-done coach
  • Comparing Bill Belichick’s start to his career with Josh McDaniels
  • Does Derek Carr return with Josh McDaniels in 2023?
  • Should 49ers fans be disappointed with last Sunday’s win or should they nitpick?
  • The 49ers offensive inconsistencies have been because they haven’t had a lot of time together so far this season
