The last time that Skal Labissiere suited up for the Sacramento Kings, Jerry Reynolds had just recently retired from broadcasting games.
Nearly four years later, the Haitian forward is back in Sacramento on an Exhibit 10 contract as he attempts to make one of the NBA or G-League teams out of next month’s training camp.
Reynolds, a legendary former Kings broadcaster, coach, and general manager, joined Whitey & Watkins on Friday afternoon to talk about Labissiere’s return to Sacramento, contemplate what the big man needs to do differently this time around, and much more.
Plus: Jerry shares some Kobe Bryant stories in light of the legend’s recent birthday.
Topics Discussed
- Jerry will not be waking up at 5 am PST on Saturday to watch USA in FIBA action
- Would the Sacramento Kings have selected Kobe Bryant in the 1996 NBA Draft if he fell to 14th?
- “If the Lakers hadn’t traded Vlade to get Charlotte’s pick, Kobe would have been a King.”
- Jerry shares some Kobe stories from the early 2000s

Labissiere spent the 2016-19 seasons with Sacramento before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on February 6, 2020 for a second-round pick.
The 6’10 forward averaged 8.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game over 106 appearances (40 games started) with the Kings while logging minutes at the power forward and center positions.
Labissiere displayed his ability to be a stretch big during his time with the Kings, shooting just under 48 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range during his first stint in Sacramento.
