Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels says quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is “ready to go” Monday night against the Detroit Lions.
Garoppolo goes into Week 8 with no injury designation. The first-year Raiders quarterback suffered a back injury in Week 6 against the New England Patriots, leaving the game in the second quarter. Veteran Brian Hoyer filled in at QB in Week 7 against the Chicago Bears, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns in the team’s 30-12 loss.
“I think he’s got a little pep in his step,” McDaniels said leading into the team’s second primetime game in four weeks. “Again, he’s much the same as everybody else is. He didn’t play last week, but I think he wants to get us headed in the right direction and start doing some things that we haven’t been doing as well better. But good leadership, good energy at practice, good execution. Working with everybody across the board, and just really trying to put our focus where it needs to be and have good days and stack them this week and hopefully finish with a good one today in the red zone, some of our work down there and in the scoring area.”
Questionable though, is kicker Daniel Carlson, who practiced only once this past week, in a limited capacity on Saturday. The Raiders signed kicker James McCourt last week in case Carlson isn’t able to play.
“Yeah, he’s had a good week and fits in with our guys,” McDaniels said of McCourt. “He’s done a really good job in practice, strong leg. He’s worked with our snapper and our holder and got plenty of repetitions in. So, really like what he’s done, and he’ll be ready to go if we need him.”
