The Raiders knew they were taking a risk with Jimmy Garoppolo this past offseason.
Las Vegas signed Garoppolo as he was still recovering from a broken foot that ended his 2022 season early.
Now eight weeks into the 2023 season, Jimmy G has already missed two games because of injuries. And despite Josh McDaniels being “hopeful,” Garoppolo’s status for Monday’s game against the Detroit Lions is still unknown.
On Thursday, after a limited practice, Garoppolo told the media he was feeling good.
“Every season is kind of unique. I’ve learned that just throughout the years,” Garoppolo said when asked about the start and stop nature of this season. “It’s never going to go perfect, but you have to make the best of the situation, so that’s what I’m trying to do. Just got to roll with the punches, man.”
The Raiders quarterback said it’s not easy starting a season with a lot of starts and stops, but it’s their “job to fix it.”
“So, what will happen this week next week? I don’t know. I don’t have an exact answer for you,” Garoppolo said. “But I mean, we’re trying everything we can. It’s like I said, we have a group in there that’s willing to do it, go through the hard stuff, go through the growing pains together and that’s what it takes. It’s not going to come easy to us, but we know what we’ve signed up for.”
If Garoppolo is able to go Monday, Raiders receiver Davante Adams said having Jimmy behind center will be a lift because he has the most experience with the offense.
“So it definitely does something for us and had a good practice and definitely excited to have him back in the lineup,” Adams said Thursday. “So, we’re going to go out there and try to make the most of every opportunity we get.”
