Update: Giants’ RHP Carlos RondΓ³n has been named as a replacement player for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. He will take the spot of Milwaukee Brewers’ reliever Josh Hader.
The San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics will have a delegate representing them at the 2022 MLB All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, this season.
Giants outfielder Joc Pederson and A’s pitcher Paul Blackburn have been named as members of the 2022 MLB All-Star Game roster, a nomination that is meaningful to both of them.
Pederson joined the orange & black during the offseason after spending the first eight years in the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves. A player known for his long bombs, Pederson has been a catalyst for the Giants’ offense in 2022, currently holding a 2.59 BA and a .872 OPS (second highest in his career), while hitting 17 home runs and 41 RBIs through the halfway point of the year.
Born and raised in Palo Alto, Pederson is coming off a World Series win with the Atlanta Braves in 2021 and is now making his second All-Star team while playing for the organization he grew up rooting for. He will be a part of the starting outfield for the National League next week.

Last season, the Giants had three players make the All-Star team: The now-retired Buster Posey, shortstop Brandon Crawford and pitcher Kevin Gausman.
The 2022 All-Star roster was met with a few head scratches from Bay Area supporters after pitchers Carlos Rondon and Rocklin native Logan Webb were not named All-Stars by the MLB. There is still the possibility they could make the team as an injury replacement, according to MLB.com writer Maria I. Guardado.
On the A’s side, Blackburn is a first-time All-Star after being DFA’d by the organization in 2021.
βIβm really lost for words,β Blackburn said, via The San Francisco Chronicle. βIβm extremely grateful for the opportunity to play in a big-league All-Star Game. Itβs incredible.β
A native of Antioch, the pitcher was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2012 with the 56th overall pick. Blackburn bounced around the league before being traded to Oakland in 2017. Suffering multiple injuries in his few seasons in the Bay, the right-hander totaled a 7.60 ERA in 20 appearances for the Aβs from 2018 to 2021.
Blackburn is 6-4 with a 3.36 ERA (34 er in 91.0 ip), 23 walks, and 73 strikeouts in 17 starts for the Aβs. He has allowed two runs or fewer in 11 of his 17 starts and his average of 0.89 home runs per nine innings is eighth-lowest among American League starters. The right-hander is 5-0 with a 1.28 ERA (8 er in 56.1 ip) in 10 starts on the road, the lowest road ERA in the MLB.

The Aβs have been represented at the All-Star Game by a starting pitcher in back-to-back years, with right-hander Chris Bassitt being selected along with first baseman Matt Olson in 2021.
