Josh McDaniels says the Raiders’ goal is to find a QB who’s ‘going to be here for a long time’

The Las Vegas Raiders are in an interesting spot with their quarterback position.
Since the new league year has officially begun, the team technically has a quarterback on their roster, Chase Garbers, but not a starting signal caller. The team released Derek Carr earlier this month and his backup, Jarrett Stidham, is now an unrestricted free agent.
Free agency and the NFL draft are going to be important events for the Raiders. With the 2023 NFL combine underway in Indianapolis, general managers and coaches are meeting with prospective players and evaluating talent.
On Tuesday, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels spoke with the media about his organization’s process, especially when it comes to finding a new quarterback.
“I think there’s always urgency at that position. You know, look, the goal for us eventually is to have somebody that’s going to be here for a long time. I think that, you know, you see the teams that are having success right now in our league, I would say in our conference, and specifically in our division, you know, they’re young players that were drafted by their clubs and they’re being developed there under the same continuity,” McDaniels said. “So we’re going to do everything we can do to evaluate every player at that position, both in the draft and free agency and try to do what we can do to improve the room. I mean, there’s certainly going to be a number of players
added at that position. Right now, only Chase Garbers is under contract. So we’ll look at everything we can look at. But the goal eventually
is try to have a young player here that’s going to be a Raider for a long time.”
