On Thursday, the Las Vegas Raiders ruled quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo out for Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Bulls. So, who’s starting? Josh McDaniels has two options.
Veteran Brian Hoyer filled in for Jimmy G in Week 6, securing the win for the Raiders. The 16-year-veteran completed 6 of 10 passes for 102 yards. And rookie Aidan O’Connell started Week 4 against the Chargers when Garoppolo was in the NFL’s concussion protocol, throwing for 238 yards and one interception.
While The Athletic’s Dianna Russini is reporting the Raiders plan to start Hoyer, McDaniels played things closer to the chest while speaking to the media Friday.
“Both guys are having a good week practicing. We’ll see how today goes and then we’re just going to make the right decision. And I think you at the end of the day, both of them are going to be ready to go,” Josh McDaniels said. “I have confidence in both of them. The good thing is we’ve talked about is both of them are played already, so that’s a unique situation I’d say. So far in six games, we’ve had three quarterbacks out there that have all competed in close games. So, I’m confident in both of them.”
