The other night the Sacramento Kings came home from their five game road trip and on the final day of February Kings rookie Tyrese Haliburton received his Western Conference Rookie of the Month Award.
He was given a trophy from the league and standing their with him at center court was Vivek Ranadive and Monte McNair. This was truly a great honor, it was well deserved and kind of ironic. It was ironic in the sense that on that night he was supposed to be playing his main competition for the Rookie of the Year award in LaMelo Ball.
Tyrese sat out the game with an injury while Ball put on quite the show. He has been great since being inserted into Charlotte’s starting lineup. Tyrese found on today that he just won another rookie of the month award.
He will continue to rack these up and will stay in the race for the big prize at the end. I am not sure he is going to win the rookie of the year, in fact if I were to bet on it, I don’t think he will. That is not the point though.
The point is that the Kings are finally on the right side of a draft pick.
Too many times in recent memory the Kings have not picked the right player in the draft and the list below this year shows how many teams above the Kings would be truly better off if they had selected Tyrese.
I am glad the didn’t, I am glad Tyrese is a King and here’s to many more awards for the much deserved rookie of the month, Tyrese Haliburton.
