With the NBA season about to begin for the Sacramento Kings, one of the final questions about the roster was answered when the Kings announced that they waived Frank Kaminsky.

The Kings signed him to a training camp contract and honestly, he did nothing wrong but also didn’t stand out enough in what we all could see to garner a spot. Here is what head coach Luke Walton said about the move:

“We let Frank go today and he did everything that we asked him to and he’s an NBA player. He’s a really good player. A really good teammate, but we had one spot left and Glenn I thought did a really nice job of earning that spot. So we’re going to have Glenn on the roster and we’ll keep moving forward and just kind of wish and hope the best for Frank. It’s a good lesson for all our guys to learn, it’s a tough league and a tough business, we got to enjoy and appreciate the time we have here and the time we have together.”

Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton on the choice to cut Frank Kaminsky

It is unfortunate for Kaminsky, but is the right move.

If the decision was between Frank and GRIII, the Kings made the right choice. Robinson should get minutes, not sure there were minutes to be had for Kaminsky. So, with that said the Kings roster now has 17 players. They still have 1 more two-way contract to fill out if needed and I believe that will go to Chimezie Metu.

Your 2020-21 Kings roster looks like this:

Bagley

Barnes

Bjelica

Fox

Guy

Haliburton

Hield

Holmes

James

Jeffries

Joseph

Metu

Parker

Ramsey

Robinson III

Whiteside

Woodard

The next thing to figure out is the rotation. This will be a difficult one for Luke Walton and the coaching staff because to begin the year the team has several talented players but not a large gap between the top talent and bottom talent.

The most successful teams seem to have about 5-7 clear cut players that should all get minutes with role players filling out the rest of the rotation. To begin the year the top level talented players list for the Kings is short, but could develop into a longer list in time.

Bagley, Barnes, Bjelica, Fox, Haliburton, Hield, Holmes, and Whiteside in my opinion should get the majority of minutes. That puts the Kings rotation at eight. I could see two more players getting regular run and that battle should go between Joseph, Robinson III and Parker. If any of the other young players continue to improve, they could creep into this list. That’s how I would do it.

For this team to become better faster, Fox has to make a big jump, Bagley has to play 65 games, Buddy needs to be a pure sniper, Haliburton makes the all-rookie team, Whiteside protects the paint and flirts with double doubles off the bench.

Bjelica, Barnes, Holmes, Joseph, GR III and Parker all fill the roles they are asked to in a good way. That is the path for this team. Most people don’t think that is enough, time will tell.

Can’t wait to watch the journey.
