Why I Love The Masters

The 84th Masters is almost here.
We at Sports 1140 KHTK will be airing it for the first time in a long time.
It is taking place in November because the pandemic has shifted the world’s calendar, including The Masters. So how will Augusta National play in November?
Good question, but for me the answer is that I am all in to find out.
I am a golfer, and a golf fan. I am a better fan than golfer. I love the sport, I admire the shot making and the nerves of steel to stand over a putt for a title and large amount of money. My knees shake when I am playing for nothing except for avoiding the embarrassing four putt.
The Masters however is all about the memories that have been forged into our minds over the previous years. I began watching this tournament years ago as a young kid with my grandparents. I recall Jack Nicklaus winning his 18th major in 1986 with another green jacket.
Other memories from this beautiful course include:
- 1996 when Greg Norman couldn’t hang on to a 6 stroke lead.
- In 1997 we were all introduced in grand fashion to Tiger Woods as he dominated the course.
- In 2004 Phil Mickelson finally broke through.
- 2005 gave us Tiger’s historic chip on 16.
- Sergio Garcia’s long wait came to an end with a Masters win in 2017.
- Finally in 2019, we experienced one of the greatest stories in sports EVER when Tiger won again.
The Masters is so fun because the course is the same. From year to year you can compare what golfers did over the decades to now. Amen corner, the par 3 contest, the tradition unlike any other.
I am glad we still did get The Masters in on this most trying year and that we won’t have to wait long to see it all over again in April.
