Juan Soto is heading to Southern California.
According to ESPN, the San Diego Padres are set to acquire Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals. According to a tweet from MLB Network, the Padres are expected to send multiple players — MacKenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood and Jarlin Susana — to the Washington Nationals. Eric Hosmer was originally part of the deal but declined to waive his no-trade clause. He was later traded to the Boston Red Sox.
Soto and first baseman Josh Bell join Fernando Tatis Jr., 23, and Manny Machado, 30, in San Diego.

Soto became available to teams after he and the Washington Nationals couldn’t agree to a contract extension earlier in the season. The Padres also recently acquired pitcher Josh Hader from the Milwaukee Brewers.
