The Sacramento Kings at the Trade Deadline

It is so natural to get very excited at the NBA trade deadline.

The possibility of changing your favorite team around with “that trade” that could change the fortunes of an organization for years. There have been some of those kinds of trades made before but usually the trade deadline isn’t as spectacular as that.

If you are a Kings fan, then you have probably spent your fair share of time on the NBA trade machine trying to act as a general manager of this team. I know I have. I have done the simple two teams two player swap and the convoluted multi player, multi teams with draft picks involved as well.

Looking back on the Sacramento Kings history at the trade deadline and the moves have been a little less dramatic and to be honest not as impactful as we would have all hoped.

Here is a look at what we have seen at the trade deadline over the last five years:

2020

• The Kings moved Dewayne Dedmon to Atlanta for Alex Len and Jabari Parker

2019

• The Kings moved Justin Jackson, and Zach Randolph to Dallas for Harrison Barnes

• They moved Iman Shumpert for Alec Burks

• Also moved Skal Labissiere to Portland for Caleb Swanigan

2018

• Sent Malachi Richardson to Toronto for Bruno Caboclo

• Sent out George Hill as part of a large trade that officially returned Joe Johnson and Iman Shumpert

2017

• No trade deadline movement

2016

• No trade deadline movement

Prior to 2016 the Kings had other moves like getting Danny Ainge in 1989 and a large swap of multiple players in 2013 with the Houston Rockets but for the most part the moves have been less dramatic than any Twitter or trade machine deal you see out there.

If I had to predict, which I am not very good at, I would say the Kings get involved in a couple of smaller deals by the deadline.

I would think that Cory Joseph, Hasan Whiteside, Nemanja Bjelica, and Jabari Parker would be potential players on the move. Not sure that much of a return would be netted by the Kings but that is way I think things will fall by the deadline.

In the meantime, I am going back to the trade machine to try and find “the perfect deal.”
