School is just around the corner.
And the Sacramento Kings and local grocery chain Raley’s are working together to make sure children in the Greater Sacramento Region have the necessary supplies before heading back to the classroom.
Members of Raley’s and the Kings organizations spent Wednesday night stuffing backpacks with notebooks and other school supplies for students and families “experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.” On Thursday, families were able to pick up the backpacks.
“As families prepare for the upcoming school year, we are proud to partner with Raley’s to help provide fundamental supplies to contribute to student success,” Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis said in a press release. “Investing in our youth is a core pillar of our organization and we are committed to ensuring they have the resources needed for a bright future.”
The two organizations partnered with Volunteers of America Operation Backpack for the campaign. A portion of the backpacks filled with supplies will go to Volunteers of America’s Operation Backpack, Mentor California and Kings and Queens Rise Co-Ed Youth Sports and Mentoring League participants.
