The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross is in Mesa, Arizona for all of your Spring Training coverage as the guys had a chance to sit down with several members of the Oakland Athletics during Thursday’s show.
First-year manager Mark Kotsay joined the show to discuss his new role, preview the upcoming season, and much more.
Kotsay, 46, played 17 seasons in the majors, including four seasons in Oakland from 2004-2007. Following his playing career, the Southern California native was hired as the San Diego Padres hitting coach during the 2015 season before joining the Athletics as a bench coach in 2016.
Since the 2017 season, Kotsay has been Oakland’s quality and control coach, specializing in scouting and working with the organization’s minor league clubs and also acted as the team’s third base coach during that time as well.
This will be Kotsay’s first stint as a manager at any level as the former outfielder will fill in the shoes left behind by longtime manager Bob Melvin after the latter departed for San Diego’s managerial position following an 11-year tenure as Oakland’s skipper.
