San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk and Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby have been nominated for the NFL’s Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.
According to the NFL, the award is “presented each year to an NFL player who demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.” The award is named after the founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Art Rooney, Sr.
This is the third year in a row Kyle Juszczyk has been nominated. In 2021, the 49ers’ fullback was a finalist for the award.
The field is widdled down from 32 to eight, four players from each conference, by a panelist of NFL legends — Warrick Dunn, Hall of Famer Curtis Martin, Leonard Wheeler and 2014 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award recipient Larry Fitzgerald.
The winner, determined by a vote of current NFL players, will then be announced on Feb. 9. The player selected receives a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to the charity of the player’s choice.
“These Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominees exemplify the fiercest competition combined with the excellence of sportsmanship, Troy Vincent, Sr., NFL EVP of Football Operations, said in a press release. “It reflects the very values of respect, resilience, and fairness that inspire both teammates and opponents to be the best in the world.”
