The San Francisco 49ers are riding high after Week 3’s win over the New York Giants, with Kyle Shanahan relieved to have made it through the early part of the season with minimal injuries to his squad.
The 49ers head coach listed off the injuries from Thursday night, with wide receiver Deebo Samuel being cleared of any serious injury to his ribs. While tests revealed no breaks in his chest, the do-it-all offensive weapon left Week 3 a little sore, seen as day-to-day for now.
The wideout suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter, taking a slant pass for a 15-yard gain. Upon going to the ground, Samuel landed on the football, knocking the wind out of his for a moment. He was. treated by the medical staff and cleared to return to the field, catching a 27-yard touchdown pass a few plays later.

Besides Samuel, only linebackers Dre Greenlaw and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles suffered injuries Thursday night. Both men have low-grade ankle sprains and are also seen as day-to-day.
Outside of the injuries, Kyle Shanahan left Week 3 encouraged by his team. Putting up 30 points for the third straight contest, San Francisco is humming at the moment. And that’s in part due to the play of quarterback Brock Purdy.
The second-year gunslinger finished with a career-high in passing yards (310) and two TD scores. Facing a blitz-happy New York Giants’ defense on a short week isn’t easy, but Purdy made it work, growing into the game as it went along.
“After watching the film I was even more impressed than I felt after the game,” Shanahan said about his QB postgame. “I thought he had a hell of a game.”
The Giants blitzed Brock Prudy on 33 of his 39 dropbacks (84.6%), the highest blitz rate in a game in the NGS era.
Likewise, Purdy averaged the fastest time to throw of his career (2.34 seconds).

However, Purdy wasn’t as pleased with his performance, seeing plenty of mistakes to work on this season.
āI donāt really get wrapped up in the stats and stuff. Thereās some throws out there that I missed that couldāve helped us get the lead earlier, quicker and faster. Those are the things that sort of are in my mouth that I have a bad taste from that I want to be better at. So, watch the film, keep getting better and we just want to keep winning,ā Brock Purdy stated.
