Quarterback Derek Carr threw three interceptions as the Raiders lose their season-opener against the Los Angeles Chargers 24-19.
The new-look Raiders saw consistent pressure Sunday from the Chargers defense, with Khalil Mack tallying 3 sacks on Carr, half of what the team would end with for the day.
Josh Jacobs and Brandon Bolden also couldn’t get a run game going Sunday, either. The two backs produced less than 70 yards on the ground. The lone bright spot for the Raiders was Davante Adams. He led the team in receptions, ending the day with 10 for 141 yards and one touchdown.
“Brandon did a good job of having their team ready to go,” coach Josh McDaniels said after the game. “They certainly played and coached better than we did today. There’s a lot to learn from this game, I think in terms of how we want to play and win. Obviously, it’s difficult to win when you lose the turnover margin the way we did and give them opportunities.”
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert finished the day with a passer rating of 129.4 as he completed 26/34 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns.
