The Las Vegas Raiders have signed a linebacker after placing one on IR earlier this week.
On Wednesday, the team announced they’ve signed rookie Isaac Darkangelo and defensive tackle Doug Costin. The terms of the deals were not disclosed.
The move to sign Darkangelo comes after the Raiders placed linebacker Darien Butler on injured reserve. Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said the injury to Butler came after last Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.
“Darien was an undrafted guy and kind of made his way into the games last year in a number of phases and offseason kind of worked through the offseason to get better and then had a decent training camp going and then, it’s just unfortunate,” McDaniels said. “We’re lucky we haven’t had more of them so far. But just hurts for DB [Darien Butler] that he put a lot of work into this year and was hoping for some good results here. But if I know him, he’ll attack the rehab process the right way and get back after it and hopefully be ready to go next spring.”
McDaniels did not disclose the injury, only that it was a “season-ender.”
While talking to the media, linebacker Divine Deablo said the linebacker group has to keep moving and prepare for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.
“In a way it made us closer. Of course we feel bad for Butler, but we just got to keep moving forward, keep each other accountable and just keep moving,” Deablo said.
Isaac Darkangelo, an undrafted free-agent rookie, arrives in Las Vegas after playing two seasons at Illinois where he led the team in tackles (71) as a senior.
